Leeds Solicitor Satisfied with Crown Court Verdict

September 08 2011

Leeds solicitor Grahame Stowe was satisfied with the outcome of the trial at Leeds Crown Court this week, which saw ex-employee Janet Lorkin sentenced to 20 months imprisonment after admitting theft from the Leeds based law firm.

Having been employed for the company for 24 years Lorkin was dismissed in 2009 after the theft of more than £40,000 was discovered and the matter was referred to the police.  The money had been stolen over a period of 21 months.

Prosecutor Mehran Nassiri said the defendant earned a decent salary of £29,000 and her husband, a practising solicitor, also contributed to a comfortable income for the pair.
But it was not enough for Lorkin of The Oval, Leeds, who had got herself hopelessly into debt and who began using the company's money in a doomed attempt to keep up the payments on a string of credit cards.

Mr Stowe, Senior Partner and specialist Criminal and Mental Health Lawyer at Grahame Stowe Bateson commented, "I can't adequately express the hurt and sense of betrayal as a consequence of this lady's actions against myself and colleagues."
